ASOPADEC donates Desks, Tables to schools

The Abia State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (ASOPADEC) has taken another bold step aimed at fulfilling its obligation to oil producing communities in the State.

This time around the people oriented Agency has as part of its policy towards ensuring the provision of basic and standard facilities for the improvement of education, has donated 90 school desks and 24 tables to three schools in Ukwa West Local Government Area.

Handing over the items to the benefitting schools, the General Manager of the Commission Venerable Dr. Joshua Onyeike explained that the donation was in fulfilment of the Commission’s resolve to provide education aids to the pupils and students across the schools in the oil producing communities and beyond and assured that more schools would benefit from the gesture.

The General Manager, represented by the Director in charge of the Education Unit of the Commission, Mrs Ihuoma Onuegbu, noted that the Commission has continued to sustain its undergraduate scholarship scheme, renovation of school blocks and the registration of WAEC and JAMB for indigent students of the areas.

He therefore charged the students to make good use of the materials as provided and to take their studies seriously for the good of their future.

In their responses, the Headmistresses of Central School Obehie, Mrs Regina Onwuka, Community Primary School,Umunteke Asa, Mrs Nlewem Florence and Community Primary school Umuiku Ozaar Asa expressed their profound joy over the gesture, pointing out that the pupils have suffered for lack of school desks.

They lauded the Commission under the leadership of Venerable Dr. Joshua Onyeike and the State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, for their love for quality education and provision of good governance in the State.

In their contributions, a teacher from Obehie Central School, Mrs Oluchi Ogbonna and a pupil from the same school miss Chinaza Chinecherem thanked ASOPADEC and the State government for remembering them.

The occasion featured the rendition of appreciation song by the pupils of the schools to express their feelings for the gesture .
