Brave Driver saves passengers from kidnappers
Reports say coaster bus kidnap attempt on the Aba–Umuahia axis of the Enugu – Port Harcourt expressway road was courageously foiled by a brave driver and eagle eyed soldiers.
The daring kidnap attempt involving two fully loaded Coaster buses was said to have been foiled by the bravery of a driver who risked his life by disobeying the command of the gang and the swift intervention by Nigerian soldiers stationed at the Isialangwa military checkpoint.
Eyewitness accounts say that about six armed men posing as passengers boarded the buses at a motor park in Aba, but attempted seizing control shortly after departure.
According to some of the passengers, when the criminals with their guns ordered the drivers to divert the vehicles into a bush path, one of the drivers resisted the command, and decided to speed off towards the nearest military checkpoint, where the soldiers immediately swung into action.
The ever ready military personnel on noticing the situation, disarmed the kidnappers and rescued all passengers unharmed.
The reports indicate that firearms and ammunition were recovered from the six suspects who were immediately taken into custody.
Abia State chapter President of the Motor Union, Mr. Chukwuma Azode, who confirmed the incident commended the driver’s courage and the prompt action of the military.
Mr. Azode warned:
“Let this serve as a strong message to all criminally minded individuals: Abia is not the place for you. We are working hand in glove with security agencies to protect lives and properties in this state, especially on our roads.”
Hanto Daily News reports that despite the unrelenting efforts of the Abia State government to ensure water-tight security in all parts of the state, there have been the creeping in of some criminal activities, particularly kidnapping.
