As Nigeria marks Democracy Day 2025, Hon. Iheanyi Frank Chinasa, Abia State’s Liaison Officer to the National Assembly, has urged Nigerians to recommit themselves to protecting the nation’s hard-earned democracy, while praising the visible transformation taking place in Abia under Governor Alex Otti.

In a goodwill message released in Abuja on Wednesday, June 12, 2025, Hon. Chinasa paid glowing tribute to the sacrifices of pro-democracy heroes who laid the foundation for the freedom and rights Nigerians enjoy today. He emphasized that democracy goes beyond the ritual of elections—it must reflect in leadership that listens, policies that empower, and systems that uphold dignity and equality.

Reflecting on the gains of democracy in Abia State, Hon. Chinasa declared that under the watch of Governor Alex Chioma Otti, the ideals of democratic governance have found expression in everyday life. According to him, Abia has become a living testament to what democracy should look like when driven by visionary leadership.

“In Abia State, democracy is no longer a slogan but a working reality,” Chinasa stated. “We are seeing rebuilt roads, revamped health centres, reinvigorated education, and a revitalized economy—all rooted in transparent, people-focused governance.”

He described Governor Otti’s administration as a model of transformational leadership, adding that Abians today enjoy a new lease on governance that places people at the center of development.

Chinasa urged citizens across Nigeria to draw strength from Abia’s example and support democratic structures that promote accountability and good governance. He stressed the importance of remaining vigilant in safeguarding democratic freedoms and working together to ensure that every Nigerian feels the impact of government.

“Let this Democracy Day be a reminder of what we can achieve as a nation when we prioritize people, integrity, and justice,” he added. “Let us defend the gains we have made and push further for equity, participation, and responsible governance.”

He concluded with a call for national unity in deepening democracy, saying that the future of Nigeria depends on citizens and leaders embracing the values that make democracy work—not just in words, but in action.
