…. Speaker’s Anniversary Marked with Empowerment Drive for Aba South Residents
In a remarkable show of gratitude and commitment to grassroots development, the Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Ihuoma Emeruwa, has empowered hundreds of constituents in celebration of his second anniversary in office.
The event, which took place on Thursday at the historic Aba Town Hall, saw the distribution of key livelihood-support tools, including motorcycles, industrial sewing machines, refrigerators, gas cookers, and other small business equipment. The initiative, described by many as a beacon of hope and practical empowerment, targeted residents of Aba South State Constituency.
The anniversary empowerment drive was preceded by a generous gesture earlier in the week, where thousands of commercial tricycle (Keke) and motorcycle (Okada) riders across Aba received fuel worth ₦5,000 each—an intervention widely applauded by beneficiaries battling the impact of rising fuel costs.
Addressing the jubilant crowd at the Aba Town Hall, Rt. Hon. Emeruwa expressed deep appreciation to the people of Aba South for their unwavering support, prayers, and solidarity since he assumed office.
“This is more than just a celebration of time in office; it is a celebration of the people who made it possible. We are using this platform to say ‘thank you’ and to continue our resolve to make representation truly meaningful,” Emeruwa declared.
Targeted and Inclusive Empowerment
The carefully selected beneficiaries of the empowerment scheme included:
- Executive members of the Labour Party (LP) in Aba South Local Government Area
- LP Ward Executives across Wards 1 to 7
- Selected representatives from the 13 communities that make up Aba South LGA
- Youth organizations and socio-political groups within the constituency
- Pro-LP advocacy and support groups
- Members of Ezumezu Aba La Ohazu
- Trusted stakeholders and close associates of the Speaker
Beneficiaries, many of whom were visibly overwhelmed with joy, praised the Speaker for his people-first approach to leadership. Some described the gesture as timely and life-changing, particularly in today’s challenging economic climate.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Ngozi Agbara, a widow and mother of four who received a brand-new industrial sewing machine, said: “This is more than just a machine; it’s a gateway to feeding my children and regaining my dignity. God bless our Speaker.”
Another beneficiary, Mr. Kingsley Eke, who received a motorcycle, added: “With this, I can now work and support my family. This empowerment is real, and we will never forget it.”
As political observers begin to weigh in on the 2027 election dynamics, Rt. Hon. Emeruwa’s commitment to developmental representation has positioned him as a figure to watch. Many of the attendees pledged continued support for him, with chants of “2027 loading” echoing through the venue.
