You are frustrating the coalition – PDP Chieftain lambasts INEC
As the move to unseat the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, by the opposition gathers momentum, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ibrahim Kalgo has lambasted the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for allegedly trying to frustrate the move to form a formidable coalition to remove the President Tinubu government.
Kalgo who was speaking this Friday on Channels Television’s programme, ‘The Morning Brief’ alleged that INEC was colluding with the ruling APC to frustrate efforts by a coalition of political actors seeking to register new parties ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He argued that INEC’s refusal to register over 70 applications for new political parties reflects a systemic bias and fear of the emerging coalition challenging the status quo.
The PDP Chieftain noted with concern that rather than serving as an impartial electoral arbiter, INEC was now operating hand in glove with the ruling government.
“What we are saying is that it is like INEC is working hand in hand with the APC government. These are political parties or groups trying to form a party and give its platform for Nigerians to vote for a new face and a new choice of their own choice,” Kalgo lamented .
He further buttressed his position by citing the electoral guidelines, which say that if INEC responds to a new party application within 90 days, the party should be deemed registered.
Kalgo made it clear that the APC was only exhibiting fear of a united opposition and retorted, “What are they afraid of? Is it the coalition? Nigerians are tired. They want a new government.”
He also pointed that the Bola Tinubu administration has failed Nigeria woefully.
“This is two years down and nothing to show on the ground. What are we seeing? Suffering. People dying on a daily basis. Unemployment,” he queried.
Kalgo however assured that the coalition, is pushing to see that INEC accepts this request by registering us as a new party, to give Nigerians the viable alternative.
