The Abia State House of Assembly has passed the Abia State Medicine and Health Commodities Management Agency Bill into Law.
After a painstaking Clause by Clause considerations of H.A.B 12 in the Committee of the Whole and consequent Third Reading of same Bill, it was finally enacted as a Law which takes effect from the 4th of April, 2024.
Also during Plenary, the House a Petition as presented by the Member, Ohafia South State Constituency, Hon Kalu Mba Nwoke, titled “Nefarious Acts of Mr Nmecha Ume, President General, Okon-Aku Development Union and Vandalization of Machinery at the Eastern Region Estate Investment Palm Settlement, Okon-Aku” was entertained.
Hon Kalu Mba Nwoke through the Petition highlighted that the said Nmecha Ume has consistently flouted directives of Governor Alex Otti through autocratic use of his position to enforce unauthorized sales of community and government properties, sales and diversion of over 30million naira accrued via proceeds of palm fruits from the EREI Palm Settlement without the funds deployed for community development, sales of iron as scrape without remittance of funds to appropriate quarters.
The Ohafia South Lawmaker prayed that the current Executive of the Okon-Aku Development Union as led by Nmecha Ume be dissolved and an Interim/Caretaker Committee inaugurated by either the Deputy Governor or Mayor, Ohafia Local Government, the Nigeria Police through the Office of the AIG Zone 9 ensure proper investigation as regards iron rods vandalized from the EREI Palm Settlement and bringing to book of culprits and the State Government to facilitate urgent arrangements for the eventual reactivation of the said Palm Settlement to ensure employment opportunities for Ohafia South Constituents.
The Speaker, Abia State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Emmanuel Emeruwa in the Resolution mandated the House Committees on Land and Agriculture to do justice to the Petition and report to the House expeditiously.
