H.A.B 12, The Abia State Medicines and Health Commodities Management Agency Bill 2024 has undergone it’s Second Reading in the Abia State House of Assembly.
The Bill, sponsored by the Majority Leader, Okoro Uchenna Kalu seeks to establish the Agency to ensure regular availability of quality Medicines and Health Commodities at affordable costs for supply to all healthcare facilities: Primary, Secondary and Tertiary in the State for the purpose of improving healthcare service delivery systems recieved commendations by Members of the 8th Abia Assembly, describing same as timely.
In his contributions, the Deputy Speaker Rt Hon Augustine Okezie, who is the House Committee Chairman on Media and Publicity said the Bill is in order with it’s contents in the right direction.
Rt Hon Augustine Okezie further highlighted that the Bill, when passed into Law, will maintain a sustainable medicines and health commodities supply system in compliance with the procurement guidelines and collaborate with the State Logistics Management and Coordination Unit to create a database for adequate and quality logistics data for an integrated Supply System for all medicines and Public Health Commodities for planning and information sharing among relevant stakeholders, among other merits of the Bill.
The House adjourned to reconvene tomorrow, 4th April, 2024 for further Legislative business.
