AKSG SUES FOR PEACE IN NAAKISS

The Honorable Commissioner for Education; Mrs. Idongesit Etiebet has demanded that all activities of National Association of Akwa Ibom State Students (NAAKISS) be put on hold until further directives from the state government.

She made the call during a crucial meeting with members of the association held in the Conference Room of the state Ministry of Education.

Mrs. Etiebet who having received pockets of complaints and reports, convened the meeting to discuss the prevailing issues and draw up a solution.
“The ministry has received all your complaints, and understand your grievances so far, I call for peace between the aggrieved parties, knowing full well that no good result can be achieved in the place of conflict”, she said.

The Executive members and stakeholders who were in the meeting expressed their concerns and pleaded that plans should be made to conduct a substantial election, which is already overdue and possibly the primary cause of the existing contention in the association.

The Education Boss who was represented by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Stella Etukakpan averred that the state government is working assiduously to ensure that the Akwa Ibom Students get their best through the payment of Bursaries, Scholarships, Education Trust Fund, Grants, International Educational trips, provisions of basic amenities and infrastructures, and many others in institutions across the state.
She stated that “the state Governor, His Excellency Pastor Umo Eno places premium on the educational advancement of the Akwa Ibom Students as encapsulated in the ARISE Agenda of his government, and such is not expected to be thwarted by infightings that can be handled amicably.”

Mrs. Etiebet noted that the association is the umbrella body to pilot and coordinate the welfare and development of indigenous students of the state, advising them to avoid distractions and work towards upholding these objectives and taking their studies seriously.

She equally maintained that peace is the right path to tow in a situation like this, and
thereafter admonished that all activities of the National Association of Akwa Ibom State Students (NAAKISS) including unauthorized posts and advertisements on social media platforms should be suspended until a logical conclusion is reached, as doing so will further agitate the situation.

Present at the meeting were: the Representative of the State Commissioner of Police; CSP Odiko McDon, the Personal Assistant to the Governor on Students Matters; Mr. Wisdom Emmanuel, NAAKISS President; Comrade Ubong Ekwere, Directors of the Ministry of Education, the Desk Officer, Student Affairs Ministry of Education, Past Presidents of NAAKISS and other staff of the ministry.
