Christmas Holiday 2024: My Special Gift from Pastor Umo Eno

The 2024 Christmas celebrations have come and gone, leaving Akwa Ibom State aglow with excitement and joy. It was a holiday filled with numerous events that brought the state to life. Tourists, Christmas holiday returnees, and residents alike have shared glowing tales of their experiences in the state.
From the captivating scenery to the peaceful ambiance, the clean streets, warm hospitality, and delectable delicacies, it’s clear that Akwa Ibom is steadily carving its place as a preferred holiday destination.
For me, the most memorable and profound highlight of the 32 Days Christmas celebrations in Akwa Ibom State was the moment His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno, honored Ikpa Udo, an Akwa Ibom-born musician in Nsit Ubium Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.
It has been a tradition for the Governor Umo Eno to host his kinsmen to a Christmas party every December 26 since his assumption of office. The 2024 edition of this event attracted the crème de la crème of the state, with guests treated to top-notch entertainment from indigenous musicians, dancers, and comedians.
At the event, Governor Umo Eno’s enthusiastic praise for Ikpa Udo’s talent—urging the crowd to rise and dance—was a profound moment for me.
“If na Davido, all of una for stand up and dance. Let Ikpa Udo play again, and all of you will stand up and dance,” the Governor quipped during the event. This statement has lived rent-free in my mind ever since.
That moment was profound for several reasons. Firstly, Pastor Umo was genuinely present at the event; He watched the performers, , recognized their talents, and intentionally broke protocol to honor Ikpa Udo in the presence of everyone.
Secondly, the Governor modeled an Akwa Ibom where a prophet is truly honored in his hometown among his kinsmen. This simple but impactful act demonstrated his commitment to uplifting Akwa Ibom talents. It echoed his campaign’s promise to support and encourage homegrown talents to reach the peak of their careers.
As someone who has followed Ikpa Udo’s journey from his early days as Indigenous Malik at M-vibes in Monty Suites, to visiting the set of his first music video shoot in Lagos, to witnessing his rise in the music industry. I can attest to his passion, focus, and sacrifices in building his music career. The honor Pastor Umo Eno bestowed upon Udo Mbakara , aka Ikpa Udo, was a special Christmas gift not just to the artist but to all Akwa Ibom youths.
I see this honor as a testament to his passion and dedication. this recognition was a tremendous morale boost for Ikpa Udo. His reactions to the Governor’s speech and post-event social media updates radiated fulfillment and encouragement.
This piece is my open appreciation to Governor Umo Eno and a call to Akwa Ibom youths: you have a Governor who is genuinely interested and committed to your success. Let us rise, be productive, and make the most of this opportunity.
