Akan Tommey, Frank Archibong sue for Peace and Crime-Free Festive Season as they Officially Flag-Off Eket Festival 2024

…..Promises improved edition of Eket Festival next year

The Chairman of Eket Local Government Council and initiator of the Eket Festival, Mr. Akaniyene Tommey, has urged the public to abstain from crime and allow Eket LG to be peaceful this festive period .

He also assured the public that the 2025 edition of the Eket festival will be a more elaborate celebration, mirroring the state Christmas festival championed by the Governor, His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno.

Mr. Tommey shared this vision during the official flag-off of the 2024 edition of the Eket Festival, held on Sunday, December 8, at the stadium cenotaph, the venue for the Eket Christmas Village.

In his address, the council chairman outlined his plans to improve the festival’s cultural richness in the coming years by incorporating the inclusive cultural showcase model seen in the state’s capital, Uyo.

He emphasized that the 2025 edition would feature active participation from all villages in Eket, providing a platform for each community to display its unique heritage and traditions.

Expressing gratitude, Mr. Tommey lauded Hon. Frank Archibong for his enduring support and for consistently organizing the upcoming Christmas Carols.

Flagging off the 2024 edition, the Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Frank Archibong, commended Mr. Tommey’s dedication to the festival.

Archibong described this year’s event as a improved step forward in the festival’s evolution, recognizing its role as a platform for economic empowerment and SME growth within the community.

He called on individuals involved in criminal activities to embrace peace during the festive season, ensuring a secure and joyous celebration for all. He also announced the much-anticipated Eket Christmas Carols, scheduled for December 22.

In his goodwill message, Dr. Akata, the Member representing Eket in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, applauded Mr. Tommey for the festival’s inception.

He pledged that his legislative efforts would prioritize further regional development, including the establishment of Eket Golf Estate, a project aimed at enhancing the area’s tourism and real estate potential.

The flag-off ceremony drew a host of dignitaries, including the Paramount Ruler of Eket, HRM Edidem ECD Abia, former AKHA member David Lawrence, PDP Eket Chapter Chairman Uso Isong, Ayang Ayang, Chief Udo Isong, Pst. John Odungide, the Secretary of the Council, and many others who graced the occasion.
