The cooperation of the Legislature to drive the vision of putting Abia State on the speed lane of development has been highlighted as the major thrust of the Ministry of Budget and Planning, Abia State.
Mr Kingsley Anosike, Hon Commissioner for Budget and Planning Abia State gave the insight during an interface with Abia State House of Assembly Committee on Budget, with Hon Ume Mathias as Chairman.
Commissioner Anosike also hinted that the entire need of State development must be put in view adding that the Mid Term Framework shall be put forward to the Legislature, accompanied by the template which has also been made ready in anticipation of the 2024 budget.
Anosike regretted that Abia in the past administration ranked 34th behind just two States in terms of donor agency involvement because of what he described as lack of transparency in the budgeting process, adding that budget performance speeds up bilateral and donor agency engagement because transparency forms the major fulcrum of their policies.
Earlier during the interface, Hon Ume Mathias said the inaugural interface between the House Committee on Budget and the Ministry is hinged on the greater interest of Abia State in line with the vision of Governor Alex Otti, as any manner of excuse shall not be entertained as no clog in the wheels of the State’s development shall be tolerated.
Contributing, the Chief Whip, Hon Emeka Obioma said the Ministry, while ensuring Legislative compliance must not fall short of bringing to bare the basic rules of budgeting viz a viz the capital and recurrent expenditure in view of people oriented projects which shall be flagged off by Governor Otti including the expansion of the Tower-Opara Square 6-Lane and Tower-Onuimo 6-Lane projects.
The Legislature also assured of a continuous synergy between her and relevant bodies to ensure the departure of the old order and speed up the development of Abia State.
