Agriculture is the bedrock of civilization, shaping economies and ensuring our daily sustenance. At its core, it involves cultivating crops and raising animals to provide us with food and other essential products. This crucial sector, often hailed as the backbone of numerous economies, was prominently highlighted during the Africa Food Systems Forum (AGRF) 2024 in Kigali, Rwanda. This prestigious event served as a platform for discussing advancements in agricultural practices across the continent.

Among the distinguished attendees was Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State, who brought a vision that transcends mere participation. His presence at AGRF 2024 was driven by a bold ambition to elevate Akwa Ibom’s agricultural sector to new heights. Central to his vision is the A.R.I.S.E Agenda, where “A” stands for Agriculture—a testament to his commitment to this vital sector.

Governor Umo Eno’s approach at the forum was not just about attending; it was about seizing the opportunity to champion his administration’s dedication to agricultural excellence. The AGRF 2024 provided a unique stage for him to highlight and advance the strategic initiatives embedded in his A.R.I.S.E Agenda, particularly focusing on agriculture as a cornerstone of Akwa Ibom’s economic strategy.

Under Governor Umo Eno’s leadership, Akwa Ibom has witnessed transformative changes in its agricultural landscape. One notable achievement is the revival of the Dakkada Global Oil Palm Industry, formerly known as Akwa Palms Estate. This project exemplifies his commitment to restoring the state’s agricultural prominence and revitalizing key sectors.

Additionally, the development of the Ibom Model Farm—a state-of-the-art integrated farming scheme—and the cocoa development project further underscore his dedication to enhancing farming practices and supporting local farmers. These initiatives reflect a forward-thinking approach to agriculture that seeks to bolster both productivity and sustainability.

At the summit, Governor Umo Eno was not merely a passive observer. He actively engaged with key stakeholders, including global leaders, investors, and agricultural experts, to secure vital investments for Akwa Ibom’s agricultural projects. His delegation, comprising influential figures such as the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah, and other high-ranking officials, was instrumental in this endeavor.

The Governor’s delegation also included Dr. Offiong Offor, Commissioner for Agriculture; Sir Charles Udoh, Commissioner for Culture and Tourism; Mr. Emem Bob, Commissioner for Economic Development; and Pastor Imoabasi Jacob, Managing Director of Akwa Ibom Investment Corporation (AKICORP). Together, they worked tirelessly to attract crucial support for the state’s agricultural ventures.

Governor Umo Eno’s strategic focus extends beyond existing projects. He is also pursuing investments in new ventures such as the coconut refinery in Mkpat Enin and the proposed Model Palm Oil Mill in Ibekwe. These projects align seamlessly with the A.R.I.S.E Agenda’s agricultural focus and are poised to deliver significant economic benefits to the state.

As the AGRF 2024 progresses, Governor Umo Eno’s influence is becoming increasingly evident. His active participation and strategic engagements are driving the transformation of Akwa Ibom’s agricultural sector, aligning perfectly with the goals of the A.R.I.S.E Agenda.

His efforts at the forum are more than a tactical move; they represent a steadfast commitment to realizing his vision of agricultural rejuvenation. By championing these initiatives, Governor Umo Eno is ensuring that agriculture remains a foundational element of Akwa Ibom’s economic revival and long-term prosperity.

In summary, Governor Umo Eno’s presence and proactive stance at AGRF 2024 underscore his dedication to advancing agricultural development in Akwa Ibom. His leadership, marked by ambitious projects and strategic investments, is poised to usher in a new era of agricultural excellence for the state.
