The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Urueoffong/Oruko Local Government Area, Rt. Hon. (Chief) Uno Etim Uno has given a clue to how he intends to run the affairs of the Council and the approach he will adopt in actualizing his plans for the total transformation of the area.
He made the disclosure, Thursday in his house in Uyo while playing host to members of a socio-political organization, Grassroots Disciples For Uno and Umo Eno, who paid him a solidarity visit, noting that this resolve informed his decision to constitute a NEEDS Assessment Committee to interface with all the villages in the Local Government Area, to collate information regarding their most pressing needs in order of priority.
“Although I have my idea of what Urueoffong/Oruko needs, how to solve our most pressing problems, transform our Local Government Area and improve the standard of living of our people, I also believe in hearing from the people to determine where it pinches them most.
“Arising from this understanding, immediately after my nomination as PDP Chairmanship candidate, I constituted a NEEDS Assessment Committee chaired by a Professor and membership drawn from highly experienced professionals who have a deep understanding of the Local Government Area.
“The Committee met with representatives of all the villages who suggested areas they expect government to intervene in the short, medium and long term.
“The Report of that Committee will form the fulcrum of our policy implementation when we assume office. As far as I am concerned, it is one thing for government to have plans for the people, it is a different thing for such plans to address specific needs of the people.
“I believe my emergence as PDP Chairmanship Candidate is divine, considering my experience and how it happened.
“I am grateful to my boss and leader, His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno for accepting to release me to answer this clarion call by my people.
“As Grassroot Disciples, my request to you is that if you give me 100% support, you give 200% to our Governor. I am pleased that you have found time to identify with us and God’s agenda for our people.” He submitted.
In their separate speeches, leaders of the Ikpe- based group, Ulap Victor Uweh, Elder Isaac Okon Jack, Chief Etta Edemumoh, Deaconess Nene Bassey, Elder Friday Jacob Ottong unanimously endorsed Chief Uno as the perfect choice for the PDP and ideal Chairman for the Local Government Area at this time in its history.
The grassroots mobilizers extolled the virtues of Chief Uno and recounted his stellar performance in office, ability to create peace, foster unity and unmatched grassroots mobilisation capacity.
“We are here to pledge our loyalty and to assure you that we will support you to deliver UrueOffong/ Oruko 100% to PDP in 2027 and beyond.” The Coordinator, Elder Isaac Okon Jack submitted.
On hand to receive the group were the wife of the candidate, Mrs Elizabeth Uno, Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor,
