Let A’Ibom Become Construction Site This Christmas – Gov Eno Tells Contractors

emphasises on effective use of season

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has called on contractors handling projects across the State to ensure effective use of the dry season to complete their jobs, with an appeal that the State must become a construction site within the season.

Speaking during a special meeting with 41 contractors in his office, Government House, Uyo, he said funds have been released accordingly and a monitoring team will visit the different sites to assess level of compliance and delivery.

Governor Eno who said though the State was not stopping anyone from celebrating Christmas, the contractors must endeavour to use the season properly.

He advised them to possibly break into shifts and ensure 24 hours construction, which, according to him, would enhance delivery.

We called this particular meeting because we know our terrain in this part of Nigeria. Rains are always with us, and now it rains even till December. So we just have a small window to get back to site, and to get things done.

“We have awarded some new roads and some are additional payments.
I think they are about 41 of them or thereabout, and 41 contractors are either mobilizing to site or we are continuing your payment.

“Also we know that it is Christmas season, and the amount we are going to release is for contractors that will be on ground to work.

“We all know the Christmas mode, some contractors do not go to site and by the time they return in January, the rainy season has come, prices have gone up. So if you know you are going on vacation as a company, please don’t take this money. Let us know that this company will shut down and go on vacation,” he said.

The State Chief Executive said the projects cut across all the local government areas in the State, and urged the contractors to adequately involve the locals where necessary, and endeavour to do their Corporate Social Responsibilities.

He appreciated the contractors for being partners in the development of the State, and assured that the State was prepared to support them where necessary for effective and timely delivery.

In his remark, the Managing Director/Chief Executive of Hensek Integrated Services, Engr Uwem Okoko, who spoke on behalf of contractors, appreciated the Governor for the opportunity afforded them to be partners in the State’s development, the prompt release of funds, and also assured that they will deliver and live up to expectations.
