LG Polls: Senator Ekong Sampson hosts Akwa Ibom South PDP Chairmanship Candidates, Chapter Chairmen

Ahead of Saturday’s Local Government polls in Akwa Ibom State, Senator Ekong Sampson, representing Akwa Ibom South in the National Assembly, has met with the Peoples Democratic Party Local Government Chairmanship Candidates of Akwa Ibom South extraction. Senator Sampson is currently in Akwa Ibom to condole with Governor Umo Eno over the demise of his wife, and also to give support to the PDP in the elections.

The breakfast interaction which took place at the William Shakespeare Hall, Watbridge Hotels, Uyo, also had in attendance, all the 12 Local Government Chapter Chairmen of the PDP. Speaking at the parley, Senator Ekong Sampson congratulated the party candidates and officers on their emergence and charged them for victory at the forthcoming polls.

Senator Sampson is widely respected for his vast knowledge in Local Government and grassroots administration, having been a former Councillor and Head of Council, himself. The Onomkpoinam Mkpat Enin is also a former two-term Member of the State House of Assembly, member of the State EXCO, before his election into the Senate.

Senator Sampson, at the meeting, admonished the candidates on peaceful conduct in the elections, noting that they were working to ensure that PDP wins convincingly, come Saturday. He expressed confidence that Akwa Ibom South, being a full PDP enclave, will sweep the polls for the party.

Sampson, who was in Okobo and other grounds during the campaigns to drum up more support for the PDP, tasked the candidates and party officers on ensuring cohesion and political stability in their respective Local Government Areas, to further strengthen the PDP.

Senator Sampson assured the Council Chairmanship Candidates that he will use his experiences in Local Government administration to assist them while in office. He presented them with copies of his office magazine, the ‘Akwa Ibom South Senator’.

Senator Sampson equally thanked Governor Umo Eno for his democratic spirit and support for the party. Earlier, a minute silence was observed in honour of the passage of the Governor’s wife, Late Mrs Patience Umo Eno.

Responding on behalf of the group, Rt Hon. Uno Etim Uno, the Chairmanship Candidate for Urueffong Oruko and Mr. Stanley Inyang, PDP Chapter Chairman for Ikot Abasi Local Government Area, in their separate remarks, thanked Senator Ekong Sampson for being a committed party stalwart, who has contributed immensely to the PDP. They assured the National Assembly man of their continued collaboration.

Among those present at the meeting were the PDP Senatorial District Chairman, Barr. Ekpong Edemumoh, Barr. Ini Ikott, former State Assembly Member for Onna, Engr. Ben Edenseting, PDP Deputy State Youth Leader, Engr. Uwem Akpan, immediate past President, Nigerian Society of Engineers, Uyo Branch, Mr. Elvis Osung, and Sir Michael Essang, former Deputy State Chairman of the PDP, who closed the meeting with a prayer of victory for the party.
