NUJ Inducts Finbarr, Congratulates Gov’s Aide on Impact Project Award
The Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, in Akwa Ibom State, has inducted the Special Assistant to the Governor of Akwa Ibom State on Social Reorientation, Mr Aniekeme Finbarr, into the union, while congratulating him on his award of an impact project by the United States government through International Visitor Leadership Programme, IVLP.
Mr Finbarr, and his wife, Ekaette Finbarr, were part of the 188 people formally inducted as members of the union in Akwa Ibom State.
Comrade Amos Etuk, Chairman of the union, in a state of the state address during the August Congress of the journalists at the Press Centre, Uyo, extended the union’s congratulatory messages, and commended the governor’s aide on the award and his contributions to society.
The IVLP Impact Project of Mr Finbarr yielded the Next Generation Journalists programme that aims to equip 60 final year students of Communication Arts and Mass Communication from three public tertiary institutions in Akwa Ibom State.
The project had commenced on Thursday, August 22, 2024, and was scheduled for wrap up, Friday, August 30, 2024.
The union underscored the need for members to constantly commit themselves to the good of society, and maintain professionalism in the line of duty.
Comrade Etuk also lauded other members of the union, who are impacting society in various ways, and charged them to continue.
Other highlights of the month’s Congress was the induction of top level academics including the Dean, Faculty of Communication and Media Studies, University of Uyo, Professor Peter Esuh; and Professor Ashong Ashong. The Next Generation Journalists’ Programme Coordinator, Mr Precious Ukeje, was also inducted.
