Traditional rulers in Abia State have been urged to remain agents of peace to foster the development of the State at large.
The call was made when the Abia State House of Assembly Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs interfaced with Traditional Rulers with a view to getting acquainted with the goings on in their various domains.
The Chairman of the Committee, Hon Chinasa Anthony further stressed that the traditional stool, being sacred should be preserved and treated with utmost respect and importance, urging Ndi Eze to do the needful in ensuring the preservation of the sacred tenets of same Institution.
Hon Chinasa further hinted that misunderstandings in the coloration of issuance of Staff of Office and Letters of Recognition to multiple persons in same Autonomous Community shall be addressed and justice seen to be done.
Among traditional rulers who expressed concerns in various shades include Eze Ikedichi Uzoije, Eze Jim Akatobi, Eze Samuel Agwu Ihejirika and Eze Blessing Ekpendu.
Prof. Ezenwa Ngwakwe, Dean Faculty of Law, Abia State University who is also President General, Nneji Autonomous Community was also vociferous in fingering some Staffers of the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs for double standards, urging the Committee to intervene with a view to correcting various anomalies.
The House Committee was also extolled for coming forward with a humane approach, who in turn stated that no stone will be left unturned towards restoring sanity in the Traditional Institution.
Members of the Committee present during the interaction include the Leader, Hon Uchenna Okoro Kalu, Whip and Member, Umuahia South State Constituency, Hon Emeka Jacob Obioma, Hon Iheanacho Nwogu, Hon Kalu Mba Nwoke and Hon Emmanuel Ndubuisi.
