Uyo based budding entrepreneur and former Leader of Abak Legislative Council, Hon. Sandra Bassey, has said that shoemaking will always remain his first love.

Bassey who is the CEO of SBA Hand Tech Academy, stated this on a post she made on Facebook, explaining the challenges she has faced as a growing entrepreneur.

I’ve been quiet about my business for a while, and I owe you all an explanation. The reality is, it’s been emotionally draining. Imagine agreeing on a price with a customer, only to head to the market and find out the cost of materials has doubled. It’s hard to go back to a customer and ask for more money—how would you feel if the roles were reversed?

“Often, I end up covering the difference myself, using what little I planned to keep as profit, or even dipping into my own funds. It feels like working for free or, worse, at a loss. The frustration of it all can be overwhelming, it spills over into my personal life, and most times, transfer of aggression on innocent people. That’s why I took a break and shifted my focus to importation. It started as a side hustle about a year ago, but when things got tough with my main business, I leaned into it more. And honestly, it’s been a relief.

“But no matter how good it’s been, shoemaking will always be my first love. I can’t just walk away from it, even when it feels impossible. To my clients, I ask for your patience and understanding. This situation isn’t just mine; it’s the reality for many of us in the trade. We don’t want to raise prices, but sometimes, we don’t have a choice.

“From time to time, I’ll share some products I import, which may not always be shoe-related. I hope you can understand—this economy has pushed us to discover new talents. And if you’re interested in joining my importation group, where you can find great deals for resale, drop a comment, and I’ll add you. Thank you for sticking with me through the ups and downs.
