SOCIAL MEDIA AND POLITICS OF GOVERNANCE – A CASE STUDY OF ISUIKWUATO LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA.
This article becomes expedient given the fact that the office of Air Vice Marshal Chinwendu Onyike fdc (Rtd) Mayor of Isuikwuato Local Government Area had been inundated with series of comments especially on the social media space concerning perceived invisibility and non publicity of activities at the Local Government Area.
First and foremost we would like to state here that the Mayor by virtue of his training as a STRATEGIST believes so much in the philosophy of “less talk and more work”. However, this do not imply that the people he leads should be kept in the dark with regards to his activities and performance, but the option of using the social media to attract cheap popularity is not an option.
Upon resumption in office December 1, 2023 the Mayor immediately embarked on grading of Rural Roads in Isuikwuato LGA to ensure a smooth and safe ride for people coming home for the Christmas festivities. Nunya to Ogboro, Ozara/Ezere/Acha etc amongst others were graded and this can be verified by anyone in doubt.
A visit to the LGA headquarters at Mbalano shows a drastic turnaround in the ambience and physical Outlook of a facility that was once overgrown with weeds, tall trees and bushes as a result of many years of maladministration and total neglect of previous Leaders. This immediate turnaround was achieved by the Mayor within four weeks of his resumption in office.
Despite the lean resources available for projects, and under the First Quarter Priority Projects the Mayor commenced the construction and renovation of various buildings and facilities within and outside the council headquarters at Mbalano.
Currently they’re over ten projects ongoing some completed and some at various levels of completion. Mbalano headquarters currently is a huge construction site.
